Weathernews Partners with Vessel Performance Solutions to Improve Vessel Routing Solution
Weathernews Inc (WNI) has partnered with Vessel Performance Solutions (VPS) to integrate critical performance data from vessel systems with its main weather routing system to further optimize voyage planning.
VPS ‘VESPER software platform continuously records performance data of the hull and propellers, main and auxiliary engines and boilers to determine speed, RPM and fuel consumption estimates which can be viewed in a consistent manner. seamless in WNI’s Optimum Ship Routing (OSR) service.
Tokyo-based WNI’s advanced weather forecasting solution harnesses the power of AI technology, backed by human intelligence and logistics, to deliver highly accurate forecasts to avoid inclement weather that can disrupt travel schedules and is installed on approximately 10,000 ships worldwide.
Faurschou said the alliance with VPS responds to a market expectation for more integrated and complete systems with a high level of predictive functionality.
Leading shipping companies Golden Ocean, G2Ocean, Lauritzen Bulkers and Ultrabulk are already using WNI and VPS services, so they can instantly take advantage of the integrated solution.
VESPER uses well-established mathematical models of ships and calibrates these models against operational data to give accurate predictions of speed, fuel and rpm based on speed, draft, wind conditions and waves.
In practice, this will significantly improve the accuracy of trip cost estimation and ETA calculation in trip planning for OSR users, according to Petersen.
At the same time, it will provide access to OSR meteorological data of around 1,000 vessels currently using the VESPER web service, which also includes advanced data validation, crew feedback module, advanced diagnostics, Charter and travel monitoring, as well as Support for environmental compliance reports such as support for EU MRV, IMO DCS and CII.
