Indian Railways subsidiary DFCCIL to develop mega multimodal logistics park in Kanpur
Lucknow, India (Urban Transport News): In a major boost to the economy of UP, the Indian Railways-arm Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) plans to develop a multi-modal logistics park in Kanpur for handling freight. It would be the fourth such mega logistics park in UP, but the first to be developed by DFCCIL.
“In two years, UP will have a multi-modal logistics park, 20 km from Kanpur city, near Rooma railway station. It would be the fourth logistics hub in the state for the movement of goods — three more are in Dadri, including one developed by Container Corporation of India Limited and two to be developed by National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation Limited and Adani Group,” said Srinivas Nanduri, Director, Operations and Business Development, DFCCIL at the exhibition. InnoRail at the RDSO Complex, Lucknow, TOI reported.
According to Nanduri, DFCCIL has purchased land of 70 hectares in the villages of Hathipur, Maharajpur and Tilsaharibujurg in Narval tehsil of Kanpur Nagar. “After the construction of the hub, we expect 15 million tonnes of cargo to be handled each year,” he added. Meanwhile, the six-lane 63 km Lucknow-Kanpur green highway is also expected to be completed by mid-2024.
“The mega logistics hub will reduce transportation costs, which will give a competitive edge to Indian products. The Kanpur logistics hub will also boost the one district, one product initiative of UP government,” Srinivas said. Kanpur Logistics Park is part of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor which connects Ludhiana to Sonnagar.
In October 2022, the DFCCIL launched a call for expressions of interest (EOI) from logistics service providers, real estate developers, third-party logistics players, warehousing investors, container train operators, financial institutions, industrial houses, etc. for the construction, development and operation of a multimodal logistics park on the lands of DFCCIL in New Kanpur (EDFC) within the framework of the PM-Gati Shakti policy thanks to private investments.
With the aim of developing interconnected infrastructure through private investment, DFCCIL has considered establishing a Multimodal Logistics Park (MMLP) on DFCCIL land in New Kanpur along the EDFC corridor, which can provide the necessary infrastructure to manage various categories of goods.
“It is anticipated that the proposed multimodal logistics park will be an integrated logistics facility in Kanpur alongside EDFC, which would help reduce the overall supply chain logistics cost for customers, duly leveraging rail connectivity. modern, efficient and high-capacity DFC capable of meeting urgent freight transport needs,” EOI’s notice stated.
The deadline for submitting EOI documents was October 31, 2022.
