Manila, Philippines – Two mayors in Metro Manila have tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) amid the peak of cases in the region.
Pasay City mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano has tested positive for COVID-19 again and is currently undergoing isolation at his facility, his chief of staff said on Sunday.
Rubiano was not feeling “well” on Saturday January 1, showing symptoms such as a sore throat.
She immediately took an RT-PCR test and tested positive for the virus.
Despite his isolation, Rubiano will still host online meetings, Pasay City’s public information official said in a Facebook post.
Rubiano first contracted COVID-19 in February 2021.
Meanwhile, the mayor of the town of Navotas, Tobias “Toby” Tiangco, confirmed that he had tested positive for the virulent disease.
On his Twitter post, Tiangco said he would undergo a two-week isolation period after testing positive for COVID-19 over the weekend.
Being immunocompromised due to his asthma, Tiangco said he regularly takes the self-antigen test. On Sunday, after testing positive on the antigen test, he underwent an RT-PCR test and was confirmed positive for the disease.
Tiangco said he would always try to fulfill his mandate while he was in isolation for 14 days.
“Bilang COVID patient, sasailalim po ako sa 14 days of isolation ngunit hanggang makakaya, gagampanan ko pa rin po ang tungkulin nating i-monitor at pangunahan ang ating COVID response to iba pang responsibilidad as mayor”, a-t- he declares.
Tiangco then called on the public to respect health and safety protocols and on those who are not yet vaccinated to receive the vaccine.
“Muli, pakiusap ko po sa lahat na maging doble o triple sa pag-iingat, gawin ang health to safety protocols, to magpabakuna o booster,” he said. – / mbmf
